Zambia is set to elevate the status of pickleball as a sport within the country, driven by recent engagements with international organizations and coaches. In a collaborative effort between OYDC Zambia and experienced pickleball coaches hailing from the United States, a comprehensive four-day training programme was conducted. This initiative saw a remarkable turnout of young athletes aged 7 to 20, all of whom were granted free access to the training sessions. The distinguished guests, the pickleball coaches, were warmly received at the centre by OYDC Zambia's Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Fredrick Chitangala. Dr. Chitangala was accompanied by OYDC Zambia's Programmes Manager, Mwange Kampamba, Lodge Manager Lily Ngosa, and Programmes Officer Likemore Mahunje. Pickleball, a dynamic racket or paddle sport, involves either two players in singles or four players in doubles, who engage in spirited rallies, propelling a perforated plastic ball over a 34-inch-high net. The objective is to outplay the opposing side by preventing them from returning the ball or committing any infractions. OYDC Zambia's commitment to nurturing this sport promises a bright future for pickleball enthusiasts in the nation.
