On Sunday, December 3, 2023, OYDC Zambia hosted more than 300 athletes with disabilities to commemorate the International Day of Persons Living with Disabilities. Special Olympics Zambia organized various sports activities, attracting children from different organizations. Boniface Kambikambi, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), praised Special Olympics Zambia for arranging the event at OYDC Zambia, providing athletes with disabilities an opportunity to engage in sports and socialize. Kambikambi emphasized his committee's commitment to inclusiveness, advocating for regular events to ensure that more children with disabilities feel valued in sports participation. In a speech delivered by Acting Director of Sport Gibson Muyaule on behalf of Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu, the ministry expressed appreciation for organizations like Special Olympics Zambia, fostering events that unite children with disabilities in sports. The government reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with such organizations, nurturing talented athletes with disabilities for international competitions. The athletes actively participated in hockey, chess, bocce, athletics, football, fun, and movement games.
