Patson Daka’s Leicester City could face a potential Premier League points deduction next season if they secure an instant return to the top-flight due to suspected breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Currently leading the Championship table, the Foxes are favorites to secure promotion back to the Premier League with just 10 games remaining in the season. After enduring a challenging spell of three consecutive losses, the team rebounded triumphantly yesterday, clinching a crucial 1-0 victory over Sunderland. Unfortunately, Daka had no part in the victory as he was benched. The Sun has reported that Leicester City is under scrutiny from clubs across the Premier League and Championship for allegedly violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Concerns arise over suspicions that Leicester may have exceeded the Premier League's £105 million limit on losses over the past three seasons, ending last season. Additionally, rivals claim that Leicester is on track to surpass the £83 million combined losses limit for the current campaign. The club's delay in releasing their 2023 financial accounts only adds to the uncertainty surrounding their financial practices. Over the course of the last three seasons (2019/20, 2020/21, and 2021/22), Leicester City incurred a substantial loss totaling at least £141.75 million, surpassing permissible limits. To address this, the club implemented significant spending cuts during the summer of 2022 to ensure compliance with financial regulations and avoid further breaches. Leicester City's financial resilience has also been bolstered by strategic player sales. Notably, the club garnered approximately £89 million in revenue through the transfers of key assets like Harvey Barnes, James Maddison, Timothy Castagne, and George Hirst. Furthermore, significant savings were achieved through the departure of high-earning players such as Youri Tielemans, Jonny Evans, Ayoze Perez and Caglar Soyuncu, who left on free transfers, contributing to the club's financial stability. This raises questions about the future of players like Daka, Iheanacho and others within the squad who are high paid, as tough decisions may be necessary to ensure financial stability and compliance with league regulations before bringing in fresh blood.
