A promising team of young Zambian riders from the Zambia National Equestrian Federation (ZANEF) are geared up for the highly anticipated 2023 Pony Club International Show, set to take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from July 21st to 23rd, 2023. These talented girls, all under the age of 16, are ready to showcase their equestrian skills, going head-to-head with teams from South Africa and Zimbabwe in the thrilling disciplines of dressage, jumping, showing, and gymkhana. The Zambia Pony Club Team comprises four exceptional riders: Emah Dakik (15) from Kitwe, Jasmine Philips (13), Holly Zietsman (15), and Maia Karen (15) from Lusaka. Their passion for horse riding has been nurtured since childhood, leading them to achieve high levels of certification within the Pony Club. Each of these determined young athletes holds their Pony Club D+ Certification and is diligently working towards attaining their C Test. During the competition, the team will rotate their captains, with Jasmine leading the way on Thursday, July 20th, followed by Karen on Friday, July 21st, Holly on Saturday, July 22nd, and Emah on Sunday, July 23rd. The role of the team captain is vital, serving as the Chef d'Equipe's trusted right-hand person and maintaining open, transparent communication with the chef. Additionally, they play an essential part in organizing the team and uplifting morale. Taking charge as the Team's Chef d'Equipe will be Zara Nicholl, Zambia Pony Club District Commissioner, guiding and supporting the riders throughout the competition. Founded in 1929, the Pony Club is an esteemed international youth organization, boasting a membership of over 110,000 young riders across 27 countries, making it the largest association of its kind worldwide. The club's overarching mission is to encourage and foster a love for equestrian sports among young people under the age of 25. However, it's not just about horse riding; the Pony Club also instills the highest values of sportsmanship, citizenship, and loyalty, molding the character and self-discipline of its members. Excitement fills the air as the Zambia Pony Club Team eagerly prepares for their participation in the prestigious international show in Zimbabwe. Brimming with confidence, they are eager to represent their country with pride and determination, embracing the challenge of competing against some of the finest riders in the region.
