The Gomes Racing Team, operating under the banner of RIVERS, has made the decision to withdraw from all Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) events, including the upcoming Zambia International Rally scheduled for the following month. This withdrawal comes as a result of strained relations between the team's drivers, navigators, and the ZMSA. In a statement released by the Gomes Racing Team's media team, the drivers have made a detailed point of the falling relationship with the ZMSA as the primary reason for their departure from ZMSA-sanctioned events. Among their concerns, the drivers have cited the association's failure to address issues that were raised during the previous elections held in 2021. The drivers allege that the 2021 elections were marred by a lack of transparency and were conducted in bad faith. They contend that their concerns were left unattended, leading to a growing sense of discontent among the rally community. Notably, the drivers point out that ZMSA had set 11th November as the date for an elective annual general meeting, yet it had not adequately addressed the issues raised during the previous election cycle. In an effort to resolve these long-standing concerns, the drivers had engaged with ZMSA officials earlier in the year. However, it appears that the dialogue did not lead to a satisfactory resolution, ultimately resulting in the Gomes Racing Team's decision to withdraw from ZMSA events. This development underscores the need for constructive communication and transparency within the motorsport community to ensure the continued success and participation of all stakeholders.
