Zambia has won five medals at the first-ever African Shaolin Kung Fu tournament held over the weekend in Lusaka. The Africa Shaolin Kung Fu Games were hosted at the Ngwerere Shaolin Temple and attracted 147 athletes from 22 countries. Mathews Zulu and Mary Ngoma from Zambia won three gold medals. Zulu scored 9.2 to win first prize in the men's Group C Shaolin Quan, while Ngoma won bronze in the Short Weapons category and settled for bronze in Shaolin Quan. Webster Phiri won bronze with a score of 8.56 in the men's Group D Shaolin Quan, while Gershom Musende received a score of 8.73 in the Shaolin Xiangxing Quan. The one-day event was officiated by the Venerable Abbot of Songshan Shaolin Temple, Grandmaster Shi Youngxin. The organizer of the event, Joe Wu, expressed happiness that Zambia hosted the first-ever Shaolin African tournament, which was successfully handled. Some of the countries that participated include Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Djibouti, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, and Zimbabwe.
