Zambia minted 23 medals to finish fifth at the African Union Sports Council Region Five Karate Championship, which was held at the City Sports Centre in Harare. Team Zambia had a contingent of 36 karatekas in various age groups in the championship that was also used for rankings. Zambia won two gold, seven silver, and 14 bronze medals after the three-day competition in Kata and Kumite. This was the first time Zambia was competing internationally outside the country in the last three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. South Africa emerged as the winners with 149 medals, out of which 56 were gold, 37 silver, and 56 bronze, and was distantly followed by Botswana with 47 medals, including 22 gold, 14 silver, and 11 bronze. Hosts Zimbabwe finished third with five gold, 10 silver, and 25 bronze, making it 40 medals with Namibia in fourth place, while Angola and Mozambique ended in sixth and seventh positions, respectively.
