Commonwealth Games medalists Steven Zimba and Patrick Chinyemba will lead a 20-member national team Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) has selected for various international championships this year. The 15th to 16th of April, 2023 saw the team's selections during the national trials held in Ndola over the weekend. The national team has 14 senior boxers and six juniors that took part in the two-day national trials which attracted representation from all the active provinces except for Southern. ZBF president Dan Chiteule said in an interview on Sunday that they are impressed with the performance of the boxers. "The clubs and provinces responded very well and the only province that did not turn up was Southern. The boxers put in their best because they know the tournament's importance," Chiteule said. During the Commonwealth Games last year in Birmingham, Zimba won silver while Chinyemba settled for bronze. Zambia later reaped the other three medals with the other one coming from 400 meters runner Muzala Samukonga, who won gold. Exodus Boxing Academy (EBA) has echoed that Preparation for the 2024 France Commonwealth Games is underway as different fighters participate in championships set by Boxing Academy.
