Mongu's WeSkate Mongu, under the guidance of Johnny K Kalenga, organised a national skateboarding competition on 2nd September 2023. The event took place at LUKABA HANDE skate park in Mongu. Athletes from various regions, including Mongu, Livingstone, Ndola, Solwezi, and Lusaka, participated in the competition. Notably, the national champion, Mukuka Chande from Lusaka, was among the competitors. The competition featured three categories, each fiercely contested for top honors. The prizes were presented by Johnny Kalenga, the event organizer and CEO/founder of Mongu's WeSkate Mongu and LUKABA HANDE skate park. Below are the results for each category: The winners of the skateboarding competition in the various categories were as follows: Advanced Skateboarding Category: 1st Prize: Mukuka Chande of Lusaka Prize: £1500 2nd Prize: Simwene Sijamba of Lusaka Prize: £1000 3rd Prize: Simenda "Sugar" Mulai of Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £700 Ladies Category: 1st Prize: Beauty Chinyama of Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £700 2nd Prize: Mabulo Maliko of Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £500 3rd Prize: Mirriam Kalenga of Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £300 Intermediate Male Category: 1st Prize: Mukumbuta Ndumba Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £1000 2nd Prize: Raphael Mulai Mongu (WeSkate) Prize: £700 3rd Prize: Roy Mukuluka Mongu (WeSkate) In the advanced category, 13 athletes participated, including national champion Innocent Sichande, Johnny Kalenga, Simenda "Sugar" Mulai, and John Mukanda from Mongu (WeSkate). Other participants came from Ndola and Lusaka. The intermediate category featured skateboarders from Solwezi, the North-Western province, Ndola, and Mongu (WeSkate). The ladies' category saw 10 competitors, with Beauty Chinyama taking the first position. Overall, the competition showcased incredible talent and enthusiasm from participants across various regions, making it a memorable event for skateboarding enthusiasts in Mongu.
