The Zambia Women's National Hockey5s Team, also known as the Golden Girls, demonstrated their readiness for the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup in Oman by securing victories in two friendly matches. In their friendly matchups, the Golden Girls triumphed over Paraguay 4-2, with goals from Loveness Mudenda, Rita Katoka, and Carol Nakombe which scored twice. In another match, Zambia triumphed over Oman 3-1, with goals from Ireen Mulenga, Loveness Mudenda, and Carol Nakombe, while Rasha Muhammad Alamki scored for Oman. Coach Floyd Chomba expressed satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting the players' energy and adaptability against international opponents, "It was very good to see how the players are reacting, we started with most of them that never played the Qualifiers and a couple of them that played. We wanted just to see just how much energy they will bring against another team," he said. And Dr. Titus Suranga Fernando, the Team Doctor, assured that all players are in optimal health and are ready for the tournament stating, "In terms of injuries the girls are doing fine and there are no major injuries that we are worried about." As the team anticipates the upcoming tournament from January 24 to 27, grouped with Australia, Ukraine, and rivals South Africa in Group B, Zambia is geared up for their first two matches on January 24 against South Africa in the morning and Ukraine in the afternoon. The final group encounter against Australia is slated for January 25. The Golden Girls continue their preparations during their camp in Oman.
