Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, has called on the newly-elected Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) President, Lighton Musonda, to unite the fragmented tennis family. In an interview, Nkandu emphasized the importance of bringing everyone on board, including the candidates who lost in Saturday's elections, to foster healing within the sport. Musonda emerged victorious as ZTA president in absentia, triumphing over his only rival, Celestine Mukandila, by a margin of two votes. Musonda secured 17 votes, while Mukandila received 15. The newly-elected executive comprises other notable members, including senior vice-president Cornelius Simuchimba, general secretary Joe Siame, treasurer Ernest Shamano, officiating coordinator Teddy Chambisha, and national junior coordinator Emmanuel Mwenya. Completing the team are veterans coordinator Chilito Zulu, women's coordinator Maggie Mutale, and sponsorship coordinator Patulani Jere. The elections were conducted in response to the dissolution of the Gibson Phiri-led executive by the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ). Their removal from office was due to overstaying, paving the way for a fresh start under Musonda's leadership. Minister Nkandu believes that the ushering in of this new executive should bring healing to the tennis community and hopes that everyone will work together towards a stronger and more united future for Zambian tennis.
