Mutale Ng'andu, President of the Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA), has expressed his delight at the opportunity for ZTTA to compete in the upcoming Botswana Invitation Tournament scheduled for this weekend in Gaborone. In an interview, Ng'andu stated that the association would require approximately K30,000 to facilitate the team's participation in the tournament. This event holds significant importance for the team as it comes on the heels of their unsuccessful attempt to attend the Africa Senior Championship in Tunisia. Ng'andu explained, "We have been invited to a tournament in Botswana, which is meant to celebrate Botswana's Independence. As an executive, we thought of sending our team to participate just to motivate them after failing to travel for the Africa Championship." Just a fortnight ago, the team faced financial constraints that prevented their participation in the Africa Championship, which also served as a World Championship and a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ng'andu expressed his confidence in the team's readiness for the Botswana tournament, believing that the athletes were well-prepared based on their prior training for the Africa Championship. He also pledged to mobilise the necessary funds, even from the association's limited resources, to ensure the team's participation in the upcoming event. Ng'andu's commitment underscores his dedication to supporting and motivating the Zambian table tennis team.
