The Darts Association of Zambia (DAZ) is seeking support from the Ministry of Sports after feeling neglected during the recent Region-Five Under-19 Darts Championship held in Lusaka. Zumbi Mazabuka, the General Secretary of DAZ, expressed disappointment that the association did not receive support from the Ministry during the Southern African youth tournament in Lusaka, where Zambia secured an impressive 24 medals. Despite the event attracting participants from five countries, the invited Government Guest of Honour did not attend to close the event, and no communication was received regarding support from the Ministry. Mazabuka's team, which recently hosted an event, also highlighted the unfairness in attention received by different sports. He said, "President Hakainde Hichilema had announced that there is no minor sport in Zambia. But when we see how much attention football and other federations are getting, this treatment makes us feel like a very minor sport." He emphasized the importance of high-profile officials attending such events to motivate young players. Due to the absence of a Ministry representative to close the event, especially since other countries such as South Africa and Botswana were participants in the just-ended tournament, DAZ feels the Ministry could have done well to make an appearance at OYDC. Mazabuka also suggested that it would have been preferable to have a representative from the Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) grace the closing ceremony. In response, the Sports Council of Zambia's (SCZ) acting General Secretary, Raphael Mulenga, indicated that they were aware of the issue and would address it internally. He assured DAZ that they will reach out for further discussion.
