Zambia Swimming Union President, Mr. Guy Phiri, embarked on a significant mission by attending the World Aquatics Congress in Fukuoka, Japan. The primary objective of his visit was to lobby for increased scholarships and funding opportunities in Japan, aimed at enriching the talented Zambian swimmers who have been achieving remarkable success recently. "We are lobbying for an increase in annual financial grants and swimmers' scholarship opportunities for Zambia," Mr. Phiri stated, emphasizing the importance of empowering and supporting the country's promising swimming talent. Zambian swimmers have demonstrated their prowess in the pool, impressing spectators with their skills and determination at the ongoing world swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Notably, Damien Shamambo secured an impressive second place in his heat for the 50m Butterfly, setting a new personal best time of 26.46. Anticipation is high as he eagerly awaits the 50m Freestyle event scheduled for Friday, 28th July. The team's commitment and dedication were further evident when Zach Moyo gave his all in the 100m Breaststroke, clocking 1:10.10, just narrowly missing his personal best time. Though disappointed, Moyo remains undeterred and vows to channel that energy towards achieving a more favorable outcome in the 50m Breaststroke on Tuesday, 25th July. The unwavering support from both home and the global community has been heartening and motivating for the Zambian team. It serves as a powerful source of inspiration as they continue to strive for excellence, competing alongside some of the world's best swimmers.
