The Zambia wheelchair basketball team suffered their second defeat at the ongoing Africa Championship in Ghana, jeopardising their title aspirations and qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Siwell Kampoye, the coach of the Zambian team, expressed his thoughts from Accra, acknowledging that they gave their best effort but ultimately succumbed to a swift Algerian playing style. Kampoye noted that the Algerian team showcased a fast-paced game, while his team struggled with their defensive efforts. He remained hopeful for an improved performance in the upcoming match against Kenya, emphasising the need to recruit active young players to strengthen the team. In their opening game, Zambia faced a challenging 64-6 loss to South Africa, with claims of unfair treatment regarding player classification. Player Chipego Siyadindi characterised the match as tough and pledged to address their shortcomings before the upcoming game. She stated, "The game was tough, but we did our best and even managed to score 14 goals. Today's game was really tough, but we look forward to the next game against Kenya." The team is determined to regroup and make a stronger showing in the competition. Team Zed will this afternoon face the DR Congo at the ongoing African Paragames Women's Wheelchair Basketball, which will be streamed via the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation YouTube channel at 13:00hrs.
