Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) has engaged the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) to help track the 65 rally vehicles that several individuals imported without paying duty. The government has allowed the importation of sports cars without paying duty as a way of promoting the sport. ZMSA president Sam Ching'ambu said in an interview on Sunday that, according to records, 65 sports vehicles were imported under the pretext that they would be used for motorsport, but the number of rally drivers is declining. The third round of the National Rally Championship held in Chisamba on Sunday had 10 drivers, of which only five finished the race. Ching'ambu, a representative from the Motor Association, said that the declining numbers of rally drivers is a source of concern for ZMSA, hence they intend to mobilize more drivers to get involved. "For us, it is a source of concern that the numbers keep dropping, yet we have 65 cars that were imported as sports cars without paying duty. So, we are working with ZRA to help locate these vehicles. If it is found that they are being used for other purposes, then those who imported them should be made to pay the duty," he said.
