The first-ever all-female Karate self-defense seminar and tournament was recently held in Zambia, marking a significant milestone for women in the world of martial arts. The event, organized by Seminar and Tournament Proprietor Nayombe Muliyunda, not only showcased the impressive skills of female Karate practitioners but also aimed to support girls' education in Zambia while challenging prevailing stereotypes about the sport. With over 70 participants hailing from Zambia and Zimbabwe, this initiative not only celebrated female Karate athletes but has also created a platform for them to shine. The driving force behind this event, Nayombe Muliyunda, shared her vision for the future, stating that the primary objective is to raise funds to support girls' education in Zambia. In addition to supporting education, the event sought to challenge the prevailing perception of Karate in Zambia. Muliyunda noted that many people associate Karate solely with combat and fighting. However, she and her team aimed to change that perspective by demonstrating that Karate goes beyond combat; it is a martial art that emphasizes self-defense and empowerment. She also said that one of the goals is to transform this seminar and championship into a regional event, inviting neighboring countries in Region 5 to participate and expand the reach of this empowering initiative. Chipo Mashingaidze, a Karate coach from Zimbabwe, emphasized the importance of such cross-border collaborations. She brought eight girls to the event, emphasizing how it allowed them to experience the multifaceted nature of Karate. Furthermore, the record number of female Karate officials trained during the event signifies a significant milestone in the sport's history in Zambia as that's the most the sport has ever trained.
