Zambia has won gold at the just-ended Africa's Strongest Man and Woman 2023 Championship in Livingstone. Participants from South Africa, DR Congo, Rwanda, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Rwanda battled it out in various weight categories in the picturesque tourist city. After rigorous weigh-ins and two days of intense muscle contests, Zambia clinched victory in three major categories. Paul Mwanza, the defending African Strongest Man, triumphed in the Men's Masters Under 105 kg Professional Amateur category with 24 points, surpassing his closest rival, Leon Le Roux of South Africa, who managed 15 points. Rayno Nel of South Africa emerged as the new Africa's Strongest Man in the Men's Open Pro-Am category with 51 points, followed by Dean Shelley with 44 points and Chris Van Der Linde in third place with 37 points. Cherry Muchindu, Africa's Strongest Woman, set two new African records, lifting 260 kilograms and 270 kilograms, leading her to victory in the Ladies Open Class Professional Amateur category with 18 points. Natasha Grobler of South Africa secured second place with 10 points. In the third gold medal achievement, Paul Simbeye accumulated 32 points, winning the men under 90 kilograms category, while South Africa's Wessel Davel secured second place with 24 points. This tournament took place from Friday, October 27th to Sunday, October 29th, 2023. The top three winners in each category have earned a spot in the World Championship scheduled for later this year in the United States.
