Matero Magic demonstrated their resilience on Saturday as they secured a hard-fought 61-54 victory over the University of Zambia Pacers in a Week Seven fixture of the Midlands Basketball Association. The intense matchup took place at the National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka, keeping the pressure on league leaders, Munali Suns. Currently, both Matero Magic and Matero Warriors hold 12 points each, with Matero Magic boasting a superior aggregate. However, it is the Munali Suns who remain at the top with 13 points, following their impressive 82-62 triumph over Red Arrows. In the early stages of the game, the Pacers sprinted ahead, causing trouble for Matero Magic with Blessings Ngoma, Luciano Nawa, and Michael Nyambe leading the charge. They established an 8-0 lead within the first six minutes. Sensing the urgency, Matero Magic regrouped, with Spoican Ngoma taking charge and bringing the first quarter to a level playing field at 15-all. The second quarter showcased a back-and-forth battle, but it was Matero Magic who entered halftime with a narrow 33-31 advantage. Drawing on their experience as ten-time champions, Matero Magic's Captain Chongo Choona, Ngoma, and David Musonda asserted their authority in the third quarter, winning it 48-43. The Pacers fought back valiantly in the final quarter, but Matero Magic proved too strong and emerged victorious with a final score of 61-54. Matero Magic coach David Musonda expressed his satisfaction with how his players handled the pressure, commending their ability to turn the game around. "I am truly delighted with our victory, especially considering how the game started. Being down 8-0 after six minutes, we urged the boys to refocus, and they showed their experience on the court. With more games ahead in the league, we will continue to work hard and aim for more wins," Musonda commented. Meanwhile, Munali Suns coach Harry Chanda praised his team for their successful outing against Red Arrows. In other fixtures, Matero Warriors narrowly defeated Bulldogs 88-82, while Green Buffaloes, currently in fourth place, dominated Lusaka City Council Looters with a resounding 81-63 victory. Napsa Hurricanes showcased their prowess by overpowering Heroes Play United 89-60, and Huskies secured a 66-55 win over Hawks. The competition remains fierce within the Midlands Basketball Association, with teams vying for the top spot and striving to showcase their skills in pursuit of victory.
