20th May 2023, The Midlands Basketball Association will hold a referees and table official’s refresher clinic (training) before the commencement of the 2023 MBA season scheduled for 27th May 2023. The objectives of the training are to ensure that the basketball officials and referees under MBA execute their duties professionally and by the book. That is to help referees become more familiar with the latest changes to the rules of the game, and how they should be applied in various situations. This will assist referees make better calls on the court and minimize errors. The training will bring about enhanced officiating skills: Referees will learn new techniques and strategies for officiating the game, such as how to position themselves on the court, how to communicate with players and coaches, and how to make split-second decisions. Other skills will empower referees to manage the games more effectively and maintain control over the players. Bad officiating could be a result of many factors which include: Lack of technical experience and many more. In the past, there was a trend of some referees receiving Favors from teams (this could also comprise the conduct of the official on the court). "Referees will therefore benefit from reviewing game situations and discussing them with other referees, coaches, and players. This will help them develop a deeper understanding and Increased confidence on the pitch," MBA Technical Coordinator Gibson Chilyobwe has shared.
