Zambia's remarkable powerlifting para-athlete, Richard Lubanza, is elated with his recent achievements at the Powerlifting Para Dubai World Championships. Lubanza, who previously held a personal record of 145kg set during the 2022 Birmingham Olympic Games, had his sights set on surpassing it at the 2024 Paralympic Games. However, his performance in Dubai exceeded all expectations. In the fiercely competitive championships, Richard Lubanza achieved a monumental feat by lifting an astonishing 160kg weight, a remarkable new personal best that filled him with joy and gratitude. Notably, Lubanza stood as the sole representative from Zambia in the 2023 World Para Powerlifting event. He emphasized that his courage to compete and set this new personal milestone was a source of pride, as he brought glory to his country. The Dubai 2024 Powerlift Qualifier saw the participation of more than 78 countries, each represented by exceptional Paralympic athletes with impressive historical backgrounds. This championship also served as a pivotal qualifier for the 2024 Paralympic Games, which is anticipated to host over 2000 athletes from around the world. Richard Lubanza's outstanding performance in Dubai has not only shattered records but has also raised the flag of Zambia high on the international stage, marking him as a true inspiration for the nation. His journey continues, with aspirations to shine even brighter at the upcoming Paralympic Games.
