Richard Lubanza will not be participating in the African Powerlifting World Cup qualifiers scheduled from October 31st to November 5th, 2023, in Egypt. Lubanza expressed his disappointment, as he sees this as a missed opportunity to earn a medal and proudly represent Zambia. However, he remains hopeful that he can secure a spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games through the World Cup qualifiers taking place in March and June 2024. Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Zambia Powerlifting Federation mentioned that they are actively seeking support for future tournaments. Despite the pressure faced by the powerlifting team and individual athletes, they remain dedicated to their sport and are determined to put in the extra effort. This setback has pushed them to strive harder to prepare adequately to secure a place in the 2024 Paralympic Games.
