Richard Lubanza successfully achieved his 160 kg target, a goal set before he embarked on the 2023 World Powerlifting Championship in Dubai. This accomplishment elevated his ranking to 18th in the up to 72 kg category, among 36 participants, bringing him closer to his ultimate aim of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The next crucial event for qualification, the 2023 Africa Power Powerlifting World Cup qualifiers, is on the horizon. Lubanza is confident about his readiness for this event, with plans formed during their training to secure better results and accumulate more points for the 2024 Paris Powerlifting Games qualifiers. However, despite his physical preparedness, financial constraints cast uncertainty over his ability to travel. Lubanza said the uncertainty surrounding travel due to financial circumstances is both challenging and disheartening for an athlete who has dedicated months of intense training. Richard is putting his Para powerlifting dreams in the hands of the government and the corporate world, hoping his financial needs for the tournament will be met.
