Zambian international defender Kabaso Chongo has ended his decade-long stay with Congolese giants Tout Puissant Mazembe after his contract expired. He is set to sign with Zambian Super League side Kabwe Warriors on a free transfer. Chongo, 31, caught the eye of TP Mazembe during a 2013 friendly between Zambia and Brazil played in China. He made the switch from Konkola Blades in Zambia to Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he has played for the past 10 years. During his time at Mazembe, Chongo made 248 appearances, scoring 8 goals. He achieved significant success, winning the CAF Champions League in 2015, the CAF Confederation Cup twice (2016 and 2017), and 5 Congolese league titles. He also represented Zambia 43 times, scoring once. His experience at the highest level is expected to bolster Kabwe Warriors' defense. TP Mazembe confirmed Chongo's departure on their website, stating: "At the end of his contract since September 30, Kabaso CHONGO, 31 years old, will not extend his lease with TPM. The central defender leaves the Temple after 10 years and notably a coronation of the Champions League (2015), two in the Confederation Cup (2016 and 2017) and 5 Congolese championship titles." The statement also indicated that Chongo would join Kabwe Warriors.
