Upon the arrival of both teams from South Africa at Oydc Zambia Sports Development Centre yesterday, the Handball Association of Zambia President Victor Bwalya Banda announced the suspension of the technical bench which will act as a reflection tool for them in the next Championships. Banda said that the suspension is a disciplinary action taken by HAZ after Zambia’s disqualification from the IHF competition due to age cheating which should not have been the case. Handball Association of Zambia General Secretary, Mr. Josab Changa General has confirmed that the U-17 and U-18 technical bench has been suspended due to the South Africa backlash. Days ago, both Handball Zambian teams were suspended due to age cheating at the International Handball Federations Championship in South Africa where they won all the matches they played. In an interview with Zed Sport this Morning, Mr. Changa disclosed that it was unfair for the organizers to disqualify the teams after clearing them. "Why is it that the same people who cleared us in the Preliminaries of the tournament went on to disqualify us after winning all the games played on our way to the title," He said. Mr. Changa added that sports politics is what worked because the Disqualification only came after Zimbabwe and South Africa's complaints that the players were old. "The organizers wanted other teams to win the tournament, why did they allow us to play and later gave a baseless judgment?" He added. Mr. Josab has further said that suspending the technical bench will ensure that they reflect on how they should conduct themselves in the next games. "We will ensure that all players carry birth certificates as proof of their age so that this does not repeat itself," He has said. Mr. Changa added that the association spent a lot of money for the teams to travel which has gone to waste after the disqualification.
