In a bid to avoid being disqualified at future tournaments, the Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ) will be requesting parents to provide birth certificates of their children before selecting them for international engagements. Last Friday, the under-17 and under-20 teams were disqualified from the International Handball Federation (HF) Women's Challenge in South Africa for alleged age cheating. In an interview with Zed Sport, HAZ general secretary Josab Changa disclosed that the disqualification is a bitter pill to swallow especially with a lot of money that was spent in South Africa. Changa said that his executive will involve parents going forward so that they avoid the embarrassing episode of being disqualified for using overage players. "As an association, we will now be asking for the birth certificates of our players. We do not want another situation where we are disqualified from a competition," He added. As it stands, the International Handball Federation (IHF) has not yet slapped a sentence on Zambia Handball Federation (ZHA) for age cheating.
