The African Union Sports Council Region 5 is currently holding a mid-term strategic plan review forum in Livingstone, Zambia. This forum aims to assess the progress and challenges of the current 2018–2028 Strategic Plan, with a focus on sustaining success and addressing future opportunities. Following the forum, an inaugural Regional Walk for Life event will take place, attracting over 1,000 participants from diverse backgrounds to promote physical activity, fitness, fun, and cultural heritage through traditional games. Notable dignitaries attending the event include the Zambian Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, along with the Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, and Minister of Southern Province, Cornelius Mweetwa. Also, high-level officials such as the Mayor of Livingstone, Constance Muleabai, and the District Commissioner, Eunice Nawa, are expected to participate. Participants in these events are drawn from various sports stakeholders, including global and continental organizations, businesses, governments, and more. Over 80 delegates, facilitators, and guests are expected to shape the future of sports in Southern Africa. The Region 5 Strategic Plan focuses on seven strategic pillars, including capacity development, sports development, and organizational effectiveness. This review comes at a time when the region is recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, providing an opportunity to reflect on business continuity and resilience strategies. Additionally, Region 5 aims to align its strategy with global and continental policies, such as UNESCO Fit for Life, UN Sustainable Development Goals, African Union Agenda 2063, and TAFISA Mission 2030. On the sidelines of the Strategic Review Forum, Region 5 and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts will jointly host the Regional Walk for Life event, targeting 1,000 participants per country across the nine Region 5 Member Countries. Activities during the walk include 5km and 2.5km walks, aerobics, fun, traditional games, and information dissemination on gender-based violence and health issues. Participants will also have access to free health screenings, promoting a culture of physical activity and well-being. The African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 is entrusted with developing sports in member countries, including Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
