Muzala Samukonga's journey to full recovery received a significant update as Dr. O'Brien Simon Robertson from the UK conducted an assessment yesterday afternoon. The evaluation indicated that the athlete requires a span of two to three weeks to achieve a complete recovery. The strength assessment performed by Dr. O'Brien yielded a noteworthy observation. The assessment revealed that Muzala Samukonga's left leg exhibited a weakness of 86% when compared to the right leg. Dr. O'Brien highlighted that this discrepancy, reaching an 86% difference, far surpasses the acceptable standard which should ideally remain within a 10% range. With the athlete's well-being in mind, Dr. O'Brien concluded that participating in any competitive events would not be advisable due to the ongoing recovery process. The doctor emphasized the importance of allowing sufficient time for Muzala Samukonga to regain strength and stability. The technical bench overseeing the athlete's progress is poised to maintain vigilance in monitoring developments until 20th August 2023. After careful observation, a decision will be taken regarding Muzala Samukonga's participation in the upcoming race. This update comes courtesy of a statement issued by Davison Mung'ambata, the General Secretary of the Zambia Athletics Association (ZA). The athletics community remains committed to ensuring Samukonga's health and well-being during this recovery period.
