Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Andrew Kamanga, has appealed to the fans to turn up in large numbers and cheer the team as they aim to start their World Cup qualifiers journey on a positive note against Congo Brazzaville this Friday. "We appeal to the fans to fill up Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Friday to spur the boys to victory," Kamanga said. Zambia has never qualified for the World Cup in its 59-year history, but Kamanga feels that now is the right time to achieve that dream, with the 2026 tournament set to be staged in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. "The World Cup journey means a lot to us as Zambia has yet to qualify in its 59-year history," Kamanga said. "The last time we were closest to qualifying, the United States of America was the designated host, and 2026 happens to be yet another American-hosted tournament, albeit with Mexico and Canada. In a way, the 1994 USA near qualification could finally be fulfilled in 2026." Zambia will be aiming for a positive result this Friday at home in Ndola before the team departs for Morocco to face Niger in their second group game of the qualifiers in Marrakech on November 21st.
