Since making his debut on 25th March 2022, the Scottish-based Chipolopolo defender, Frankie Chisenga Musonda, has established himself as an important part of the team's backline. His first outing with the team earned them a 3-1 win against Congo Brazzaville in a friendly that was played in Turkey. He was also the scorer on that day. Since then, Musonda has played all six AFCON qualifier matches with Zambia, and he was the only player to play all matches without being substituted or rested, which is a testament to the important role he plays in the team. He has made nine appearances for the national team, scoring one goal. During that same period, he also became the first player for AY United to play international football in 20 years, and he is currently the only player from the club who is playing international football. The 25-year-old defender played an important part in Zambia's return to the AFCON tournament after missing out on three previous editions. They topped the group that had Ivory Coast, Lesotho, and Comoros. Speaking to FAZ media after the final qualifying match against Comoros, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Musonda shared that the qualifying journey was good and there were a lot of positives to take from it. "The journey was good and there were a lot of positives to take," he said. Musonda, however, felt disappointed not to win the final game, but he acknowledged that the team did very well, and being able to top the group speaks volumes. He predicted the AFCON tournament to be tough as all teams will be bringing their best talents, but he believes Zambia stands a better chance of winning the tournament.
