Chipolopolo boys midfielder, Kings Kangwa, has fallen down the pecking order at Red Star Belgrade this season, which could be a cause for concern for national team coach Avram Grant ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Kangwa had a good first season with the Serbian giants last campaign, winning the league and a domestic double. However, he was unable to secure a move away from the club in the summer transfer window, despite his ambition to explore new challenges elsewhere. This season, Kangwa played in each and every match of the first five Red Star Belgrade's opening games. However, in the last eight games in all competitions, he has been on the bench, coming on as a substitute or not being involved at all, despite putting up good performances and creating two goals and four big chances in his first five appearances. Grant prefers players who play in Europe for starting line-up spots, so Kangwa's lack of game time is concerning. The Zambian national team is returning to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing three editions, and Grant wants his best players to be in good shape and ready when the time comes. Kangwa's situation is similar to that of Leicester City striker Patson Daka, who has played just 20 minutes in 15 games for his club this season. Grant admitted in the build-up to the Comoros game that Daka is a very good player and deserves to play for his club, but this hasn't happened so far this season. The Zambian national team has important World Cup qualifiers next month before the AFCON finals, so Grant hopes that both Kangwa and Daka can find more game time at their clubs before the tournaments begin.
