Chipata United goalkeeper Emmanuel Mphasi has issued an apology following a 1-1 draw against Mpulungu Youth in what marked the first-ever national league match played in the eastern part of Zambia. Chipata United hosted Mpulungu Youth at the newly rehabilitated David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata on Saturday, marking their inaugural match in the national league following their promotion. Speaking to Chipata United media, Mphasi expressed remorse, stating, "As the third team captain, I take responsibility for the 1-1 draw. I made an error that I accept, and I will do better going forward. It was a situation that didn't sit well with me, the technical bench, my teammates, and our fans across the province who turned out in large numbers to support us." However, Team Manager Chibisa Banda encouraged the players to put the result against Mpulungu Youth behind them and focus on their upcoming fixture against Kafue Eagles on Sunday. David Kaunda Stadium was packed to capacity for its debut in the national league football, hosting a double-header with Chipata Girls FC losing 3-0 to ZISD FC in the Women's Super League. Additionally, this upcoming weekend, David Kaunda Stadium will host two more matches, with Chipata Girls Football Club facing Trident Queens FC in the Women's Super League, while Chipata United FC plays host to Kafue Eagles in the FAZ National League. Despite the disappointing result against Mpulungu Youth, Chipata United can be proud of the fact that they are the first team from the eastern province to compete in the national league. They will be hoping to improve their performance in their next match against Kafue Eagles.
