Zambia's Copper Queens will be missing a number of key players for their upcoming back-to-back WAFCON qualifiers against Angola in November and December. First-choice goalkeeper Hazel Nali is recovering from ACL surgery, while vice-captain Grace Chanda is yet to feature for her club Madrid CFF after missing the World Cup due to illness. Attacker Lubandji Ochumba and defender Margret Belemu are also unavailable as they are undergoing military training with the Zambia Air Force. However, coach Bruce Mwape still has a large pool of stars to choose from, and he is confident that his team can overcome Angola and book their place at the 2024 WAFCON tournament in Morocco. Zambia will travel to Angola next week for the first leg, before hosting the Angolans on December 5th in the return leg. The winner after two legs will qualify for the 2024 WAFCON tournament. Zambia finished third at the 2022 edition of the tournament, despite missing the services of skipper Barbra Banda, striker Racheal Kundananji, and Racheal Nachula, who were barred by CAF. It is expected that the trio will be allowed to play at the next tournament if Zambia manages to overcome Angola and book their place. The 2024 WAFCON tournament will be the 15th edition of the competition, and Zambia will be aiming to go further than they did in 2022.
