Sport in Action, in collaboration with Alive and Kicking Zambia, recently hosted a successful Mental Health Awareness Refresher training in Kabwe. Held from November 6th to 8th at Neemtree Secondary School, the three-day event aimed to equip football coaches with the essential knowledge of mental health issues, emphasizing the pivotal role coaches play in their players' lives. With a focus on enhancing mental health education in sports, the program sought to raise awareness and provide coaches with tools to identify and address potential mental health issues among athletes. The training, attended by 18 coaches, featured interactive sessions and workshops led by mental health professionals, covering various disorders, signs, symptoms, and support strategies. Upon completion, all 18 coaches received certificates and practical support, including footballs and bibs. Notably, the collaboration with the Ministry of Education expanded the training's reach and impact, offering professional development opportunities to coaches and benefiting young sports participants in the local community. The success of the Mental Health Awareness Refresher Course highlighted pthe importance of mental health education in sports, promoting a more supportive and inclusive environment. Sport in Action, in partnership with allies, remains committed to advancing mental health awareness, ensuring coaches and athletes thrive both on and off the field.
