Xiomara Mapepa, the back-to-back WSL golden boot winner, continued her impressive form for Elite Ladies FC by scoring two goals in a 4-0 win over Queens Sports Academy in a Week 9 fixture played at Nasdec Ground on Saturday. These two goals come on the back of her winner in a 1-0 win over Zanaco on Wednesday. However, despite her impressive form, there is no place for Mapepa in the 26-member squad named by national team coach Bruce Mwape for the back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers (WAFCON) against Angola, set for November 29th in Angola and the return leg on December 5th at home. This is now the third time that the 2022/23 golden boot winner has been left out of the team consecutively. It will be interesting to see if Mapepa will be included in the Olympics Qualifiers back-to-back matches against Ghana if she continues with her current goal-scoring form. Mapepa's continued exclusion from the national team has raised eyebrows among fans. Many believe that she is one of the most in-form players in Zambia at the moment and deserves a chance to prove her worth on the international stage. It remains to be seen whether Mwape will change his mind about Mapepa in the future, but for now, she will have to continue to impress for Elite Ladies FC in order to keep her name in the conversation for national team selection.
