Lusaka, Zambia - Zambia suffered their first defeat under coach Avram Grant as they were beaten 2-1 by Niger in their Group E match of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday. Niger took the lead just six minutes into the match through Amadou Moutari, who sloted the ball past Chipolopolo goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga. The visitors doubled their lead in the 28th minute when Boubacar Goumey scored after being set up by Issa Djibrilla. Zambia pulled a goal back in the 50th minute through Patson Daka, but it was not enough to salvage a point from the match. The result means that Morocco, who have only played one match in the group, are top of Group E with three points and a superior goal difference. Zambia are second with three points, followed by Niger and Tanzania, who both have three points. Congo Brazzaville are bottom of the group with zero points.
