Patson Daka has capped off a remarkable year with the Zambian national team by finishing as the country's top scorer with nine goals from eight games. His latest strike came in Zambia's 2-1 defeat against Niger in Morocco on Tuesday. Daka's impressive goal-scoring form has seen him rise to the top nine of Zambia's all-time leading goalscorers, just one goal behind Kenneth Malitoli in eighth place. The Leicester City striker has now netted a total of 18 goals for the national team in 26 appearances. With his fine form for Zambia, Daka is now eagerly anticipating the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which will be held in Ivory Coast in January 2024. Zambia will be based in the city of San Pedro, and the tournament will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024. If Daka manages to find the back of the net during the tournament, he will become the first Zambian player to score in all four age-group AFCON tournaments – Under-17, Under-20, Under-23, and Senior. Given his prolific scoring rate for Zambia, it is hard to imagine Daka not finding the back of the net during the AFCON tournament. His goalscoring prowess will undoubtedly be a crucial asset for the Chipolopolo as they aim to make a deep run in the competition.
