Zambian international striker Kennedy Musonda endured a frustrating start to his CAF Champions League campaign as his Tanzanian side Young Africans suffered a 3-0 defeat away in Algeria against CR Belouizdad on Friday. Despite putting in an 81-minute shift, Musonda's efforts were not enough to prevent the Tanzanian champions from succumbing to defeat on matchday one in Group D, which appears to be a challenging group for Musonda and his teammates, as it also includes Egyptian giants Al Ahly and Ghana's Medeama. Musonda and his Yanga side had enjoyed a perfect qualifying campaign on their way to the group stage of the competition, winning all four of their fixtures in two-legged affairs. They defeated Sudanese side Al-Merrikh 1-0 at home, following up on their 2-0 away victory in Sudan, with Musonda scoring one of the goals. The win came after Yanga saw off AS Djibouti Telecom of Djibouti 5-1 at home, completing what they had started when they won 2-0 away, with Musonda again finding the target. The defeat in Algeria on Friday marks a tough start for Musonda and his team, and they will be looking to make amends at home next weekend on matchday two of the group matches when they host Egyptian giants Al Ahly in what promises to be an uphill task for Yanga to secure a positive result. If Yanga are to harbor any hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition, they will need to significantly improve their performance as they face increasingly stronger opponents.
