In a much-needed boost for both club and country, Zambian defender Frankie Musonda made a triumphant return from injury on Saturday, helping his Scottish side Ayr United secure a thrilling 2-1 victory over Peterhead in the Scottish Cup. Musonda, who has become an integral part of Zambia's backline, had been sidelined for several months due to an injury that forced him to miss Zambia's opening two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. However, his timely return proved instrumental for Ayr United, as he provided a crucial assist in the last minute of regulation time to send the match into extra time. With Musonda's presence at the heart of their defense, Ayr United pressed for the winner in extra time, and their persistence paid off just three minutes before the final whistle, securing their passage to the next round of the competition. Musonda's return is a welcome sight for both national team coach Avram Grant and his club Ayr United, as his absence had been keenly felt. Grant's team struggled defensively without Musonda's leadership and experience, and his return will undoubtedly provide much-needed stability to Ayr United's backline. Zambia national team supporters will also be delighted to see Musonda back in action, as they hope he will remain fit for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations finals, scheduled for January next year in Ivory Coast. Currently the only Ayr United player representing his country at the international level, Musonda brings a sense of pride and accomplishment to the club.
