Copper Queens Spanish-based duo Racheal Kundananji and Grace Chanda have been omitted from the final 10 nominees for the 2023 CAF Women's Player of the Year award. Despite Kundananji having a stellar year in Spain, where she clinched two awards, she has been overlooked for the prestigious accolade. However, Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda has been named among the top 10 contenders for the CAF Women's Player of the Year. The shortlist, released by CAF on Monday , revealed that Banda is the sole Zambian player to make the cut. She will face formidable competition from multiple award winner Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria and South Africa's Thembi Kgatlana, among others. Regrettably, goalkeeper Catherine Musonda has also been excluded from the final list of nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Year award. Meanwhile, the Zambia women's national team has been recognized by CAF and included in the final five for the Women's National Team of the Year award.
