Angola women's national team coach Sousa Gracia has conceded that his side's hopes of qualifying for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations are over following a humiliating 6-0 defeat to Zambia in the first leg of the Women's AFCON qualifiers. The Copper Queens ran riot in Luanda on Sunday, with Lushomo Mwemba, Ireen Lungu, Racheal Kundananji, and Barbra Banda all finding the net in a one-sided affair. Speaking after the match, Gracia expressed his disappointment with his team's performance but was quick to acknowledge Zambia's superior quality. "It was not a good result for us, losing 6-nil," he said. "But I need to congratulate Zambia. I think they have good players." The Angolan coach also pointed to the need for improvement in the domestic league, suggesting that the lack of strong competition is hindering the national team's progress. "We need to improve our domestic league," he said. "We don't have a strong league, so it's difficult to compete at this level." With the second leg scheduled for Wednesday in Ndola, Gracia admitted that his team's chances of reaching the continental tournament are slim. "I can say that the knockout stage has ended for us," he said. "I just need to give experience to my players. It's going to be difficult, but we just need to continue learning." Zambia, on the other hand, will be looking to build on their impressive first-leg victory and seal their place in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.
