Chipolopolo skipper Lubambo Musonda played the full match as his side Silkeborg IF recorded an impressive 2-0 win over 2021/22 Danish champions FC København in the first leg of their Oddset Pokalen Cup quarter-final tie on Wednesday. Musonda, who missed Silkeborg's 3-1 league win over FC København in August due to a bench role, was handed a starting place and put in a convincing performance as a left full back, helping his side take a 2-goal advantage into the second leg. Silkeborg, the second favorites going into the game, took the lead just before halftime through a 44th-minute goal from New Zealand international Callum McCowatt. Anders Klynge, a 23-year-old Danish midfielder, doubled the lead in the 64th minute. Musonda's strong defensive display and offensive contributions played a key role in Silkeborg's victory and clean sheet. Now, they will host the second leg at home with a comfortable lead, needing only to preserve the two-goal advantage to secure a spot in the semifinals. Musonda, on loan to Silkeborg IF from Hoserns since August 2023, will aim to continue his impressive form and help his side progress further in the cup competition. His loan spell is set to end in June 2024.
