Francisco Mwepu provided an assist to help his Spanish side Atlético Sanluqueño CF secure a 2-0 victory over UD Melilla on Sunday afternoon, putting an end to their four-game winless run in the league. Mwepu, who boasts seven league goals this campaign, had previously gone four matches without a goal contribution in the Primera Federación. This dry spell followed a fantastic start to life on loan from Cadiz, netting six goals in his opening four appearances. However, in the subsequent ten games, he managed to find the back of the net only once. His contribution on Sunday could be just what the Zambian international needs to rediscover his form. Sanluqueño currently sit 14th in the league standings with 17 points from 16 games. With his loan spell set to conclude in June 2024, Mwepu will be eager to ensure a successful stint at the lower-division side. He will be hoping that his performance will not only earn him a recall back to his La Liga parent club Cadiz but also potentially secure a permanent move elsewhere in search of more regular playing time. The 23-year-old missed out on the recent national team call-up, and with the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast fast approaching, a swift return to form could be crucial in securing him his first-ever senior AFCON appearance.
