FAZ Technical Director, Lyson Zulu, joined 24 other technical leaders from around the globe to delve into Japan's approach to achieving excellence during block two of FIFA's new Technical Leadership Diploma. The event, held in Chiba, Japan, between December 4-9, included a six-day workshop where Zulu explored "Kaizen," the Japanese principle of continuous improvement. The workshop featured study visits to Toyota, Sumo Training Stables, and the Japanese FA. The participants, including Zulu, focused on crucial areas such as Talent ID and Recruitment, Coach Education, National Teams, and Quality Assurance – all integral components covered in the 18-month long course. "I am truly humbled to be among such a great group of experts who continuously seek to develop themselves and the game of football. It is an honor and a dream for me," expressed Lyson Zulu. FIFA's Head of Technical Leadership, Jamie Houchen, expressed pleasure in Zulu's participation, stating, "Japan has proved to be the perfect location for block two of the Diploma, focusing on achieving excellence. The unique Japanese culture, tradition, and emphasis on long-term planning and total quality management allowed participants to understand excellence in a different context. Importantly, there has been thorough planning and consideration regarding transferring these lessons back into their own associations." The FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma aspires to be the globally recognized qualification for Technical Leaders in the game, preparing participants for the challenges and opportunities within Member Associations. It covers five core domains: Technical Leadership, High Performance, Coach Education, Amateur Football, and Management, aiming to develop a well-rounded skill set for effective leadership in football.
