Chipolopolo Boys midfielder Benson Sakala saw his Mladá Boleslav side held to a 2-2 draw against MFK Karviná on Wednesday, extending their winless run in the Czech Republic league to four games. Sakala, a key cog in Zambia's national team, played 88 minutes for Boleslav in the week 17 fixture. Despite his presence, the team has struggled to find form recently, failing to secure a victory since November 11th. However, Sakala's individual performance has not gone unnoticed. He was named among the 55 provisional squad members announced by national team coach Avram Grant for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast next January. The 27-year-old midfielder has one more chance to make an impression before the league break on December 16th, with Boleslav hosting 1. FC Slovácko at home. After that, he will report for the national team camp in Lusaka on December 26th to begin preparations for the continental tournament. Sakala will be hoping to put in a strong performance in the remaining league match before joining his Chipolopolo teammates. Mladá Boleslav currently sit seventh in the table with 27 points from 17 games played. With the AFCON finals looming large, Sakala will be determined to put his club struggles behind him and focus on helping Zambia achieve success on the international stage.
