VAR Implementation Project Lead, Dirk Schlemmer is impressed with Zambia’s commitment in implementing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the Zambia Premier League. Speaking at closing ceremony of the VAR consultative workshop at Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka, Schlemmer said the implementation of VAR is a big challenge and requires a lot of preparations to be put in place and Zambia seems to be on the right path. “We leave this meeting in good confidence that the team in this room is laying a proper foundation for a successful implementation of VAR,” he said. He added that FIFA will be working closely with the Football Association of Zambia to render help and support where necessary. And FAZ President Andrew Kamanga said the Association is is tapping from experienced Referees like Janny Sikazwe who are familiar with VAR to help in its implementation in ZPL. Meanwhile, Zambia’s VAR Project Lead, Janny Sikazwe added that preparations to start with the theory training sessions for the referees and instructors are underway as they wait for service providers.
