Zambian forward Fashion Sakala played the full ninety minutes for his Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha on Thursday, but it was a night to forget as they were thumped 4-0 at home by Al-Ahli. This marks their third consecutive defeat, conceding a worrying four goals on each occasion. Al-Fayha, who had previously lost 4-1 and 4-2 to Al-Taawoun and Damac FC respectively, were hoping for a response against Al-Ahli, but their hopes were dashed early on. Firas Al-Buraikan opened the scoring for the visitors just 11 minutes in, with an assist from former Newcastle United midfielder Allan Saint-Maximin. Saint-Maximin continued to torment Al-Fayha, assisting their next two goals as well. Ali Majrashi doubled the lead in the 17th minute, and Al-Buraikan grabbed his second of the day in the 30th minute. Riyad Mahrez then put the icing on the cake for Al-Ahli with a penalty just before halftime, sending the teams into the break with a comfortable 4-0 lead. The second half was a mere formality for Al-Ahli, as they comfortably saw out the game and inflicted another heavy defeat on the struggling home side. Despite his recent good scoring form for Al-Fayha, Sakala was unable to inspire his team on this occasion. Since joining from Rangers FC in August, he has scored seven goals and provided three assists in the domestic league, adding another three goals and two assists in the Asian Champions League. However, his individual efforts were not enough to prevent Al-Fayha from enduring another dismal defeat. This latest loss raises serious questions about Al-Fayha's form and their ability to compete at the top end of the Saudi Pro League. With three consecutive defeats and a worrying trend of conceding multiple goals, Sakala and his teammates will need to find a way to turn things around quickly if they are to avoid further disappointment in the coming weeks.
