Zambian midfielder Emmanuel Banda came on as a second-half substitute for HNK Rijeka as they comfortably dispatched NK Rudeš 3-0 in their final game of the year on Saturday. Banda entered the match in the 75th minute, replacing Marko Pjaca, and put in a solid performance for Rijeka, who now sit on 35 points in the Prva HNL, just five points behind league leaders HNK Hajduk Split. With the league now on a break until the second-last week of January, Banda will turn his attention to international duty. He is set to join up with the Zambia national team for a local training camp in Lusaka starting on December 26th, in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast in January. Banda is a key player in coach Avram Grant's midfield and getting some minutes in Rijeka's final game of the year was a positive development for him. It will help him stay fit and sharp for Zambia's AFCON campaign, where they will be looking to make a strong impression after missing out on the previous three editions of the tournament.
