The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has officially declared a temporary halt to the Zambian Premier League activities during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to commence on January 13. In a statement released to the Media, FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga revealed that this strategic decision was reached in collaboration with the Zambian Premier League. The recess, scheduled from January 15th to February 12th, 2024, aims to accommodate players engaged in national duty and provide football enthusiasts the opportunity to fully engage with the continental tournament. "We have taken into consideration various aspects, among them the cognizance of some players that will be away on national duty and also allow fans to follow the tournament with undivided attention," he said. Kamanga clarified that the resumption of the league will not impact the Week 17 mid-season cap for qualified teams participating in the 2024 ABSA Cup. The altered schedule ensures a break at Week 20, aligning with January 14. The Chipolopolo, is set to embark on their AFCON campaign with an opening match against the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 17. Subsequent fixtures include a clash with Tanzania four days later, culminating in a final group stage encounter against Morocco on January 24.
