The race to replace Mwenya Chipepo at the helm of Zambian Super League giants Power Dynamos is heating up, with Nkwazi FC head coach Oswald Mutapa and former player Aggrey Chiyangi emerging as frontrunners. Mutapa, enjoying a successful campaign with Nkwazi, is believed to have strong backing from some Power Dynamos executive committee members, potentially putting him in pole position. His impressive work with the Lusaka-based outfit has undoubtedly caught the eye of the Kitwe giants. However, Chiyangi, boasting extensive coaching experience within the Super League, also remains a contender. Despite his undeniable credentials, the 47-year-old reportedly faces reservations from certain figures within the Power Dynamos hierarchy. With the first half of the season one game from completion, Power Dynamos find themselves languishing in 6th place, a whopping 7 points adrift of league leaders Zesco United. Consistency has been their Achilles' heel throughout the campaign, leaving the club desperate for a spark to reignite their championship defense. Securing a permanent coach before the second round kicks off becomes paramount for Power Dynamos. Consecutive wins are absolutely necessary if they harbor any hope of reclaiming the Super League crown. Their decision on who takes the reins could very well make or break their title aspirations. The coming weeks promise to be rife with speculation and intrigue as Power Dynamos weighs up their options. Will Mutapa's current success sway them, or will Chiyangi's experience prove too valuable to ignore? Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the club to make the right call and get their title defense back on track.
